Proteomics Project
The Proteomics project is a collaboration between the SBG partners Markus Mueller's group at ETH/IMSB, and Ron Appel's Proteome Informatics Group (PIG) at the SIB in Geneva, with participation also from CSCS and Vital-IT.
The Swiss Protein Identification Toolbox (swissPIT) is a project at the
Swiss Institute for Bioinformatics (SIB) in Geneva which aims at the
development of an automated analysis system to identify proteins using
MS and MS/MS based data. One of the major problems in proteomics is the
absence of standardized workflows to analyse the data. This includes the
pre-processing part as well as the final identification of peptides and
proteins. The main ideas of swissPIT include not only the use of
different identification tool in parallel but also the meaningful
concatenation of different identification strategies at the same time.
-
To make an set of proteomics tools available over the SwissBioGRID via a uniform interface (portal).
- To construct an integrated proteomics "pipeline" which will allow the tools to be used within a unified workflow environment.
- To make most effective use of the computational resources available at Vital-IT, UniZH, ETH and CSCS via the SwissBioGRID.
- To support collaboration and sharing between the various participating groups.
